This winery truly embodies the Texas Hill Country culture. When I was driving up to the winery, I was on twisting, turning, and hilly roads with a few low water one lane water crossing (you know the ones where the river is flowing over the road). I am pretty sure some of their wine orders get delayed when it floods!
This is truly a “mom and pop” winery; it is family run and managed. I had the pleasure of meeting Fetty family when I visited and they were so kind and loving. My trip happened while they were hosting a college reunion party on site, yet they still took the time to personally tour me around the grounds and explain their methodology (remember they didn’t know I was a wine blogger). The love and care they place into their wines is clearly evident.
Their winery / tasting room has a real farm-feel to it. Nothing fancy, but just simple hard working people, making high quality complex wines.

Ladies and gentlemen: the Fetty family runs a truly impressive operation. Allan took a few wine making courses out west, and returned to Texas with the remarkable ability to grow and produce some of the best wine in the state. I would put his wines up against the power houses in California, Oregan, and Washington. What I love is that you don’t get the “corporate feeling” at all. It’s all family, and all personal.
Their reds (all) are amazing! The Malbec, Cabernet Franc, and Cabernet Sauvignon stole the show! I am usually not a fan of Sangiovese, but their reserve was quite well done and made me pull the trigger on purchasing a bottle. I dare to say that their 2015 Malbec is the best Malbec I have ever tasted… Just to make sure that they were as good as I remember I went back for a second visit (about a year apart), and they were not as good as I had remembered… they were even BETTER!
Though I give a lot of attention to the reds they produce, their whites and roses are very solid too (if that’s your preferred flavor, you’ll be quite satisfied). They did have one absolutely fantastic white: the 2017 Vermentino! I think it is very well done and super complex.
I could go on and on about their wines, but here is the bottom line: this family makes amazing wine across the board (every single tasting I had was great), with their reds being something special which deserve to be recognized on a national level.
For the reason listed above I declare Westcave Cellars #2 of all the wineries in the Texas Hill Country (https://www.westcavecellars.com/)
